H.O.Y.A. Clinic
H.O.Y.A. Helping Our Youth Achieve
Children do well if they can. This simple statement underlies the
philosophy of the H.O.Y.A. clinic. It is our feeling that there is no
such thing as a “bad” child. Further, children are not simply
unmotivated. Rather, there are different “pathways” that lead children
to have emotional or behavioral difficulties. The work of H.O.Y.A.
clinicians is to identify what is causing the child to have difficulty
and then help the child and family determine more beneficial means of
dealing with these pathways.
H.O.Y.A. Services
The H.O.Y.A. clinic provides individual and family therapy for children
and their families from birth to adolescence. Neal Horen, Ph.D. is the
director of the clinic and has done individual, family and group therapy
in private practice in Tampa, Baltimore and the District of Columbia.
His focus has been the social-emotional development of young children,
and he has extensive experience working with children with explosive
behavior.
H.O.Y.A. clinic hours are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3 pm until 8 pm. An intake
appointment of 90 minutes is suggested for the initial meeting in order
to determine the most appropriate treatment plan. Treatment plans are
developed by the psychologist and the family. Approaches used include
cognitive-behavioral therapy, collaborative problem-solving, dyadic
therapy, and family therapy.
Neuropsychological, Social-emotional and Learning Disability evalautions are also offered through the HOYA clinic. Evaluations are conducted on Fridays and include school visits, consultations with school staff and other professionals involved with the family, as well as a comprehensive report and feedback session with the child and family.
