2001 Communities of Excellence
This monograph highlights nationally recognized communities that have found an effective way to use the resources from key federal public programs for serving young children (ages 0-8) and their families combined with local resources to create an integrated set of services and supports. Recognized communities demonstrated exceptional implementation of the following:
- All young children and families in need of services and supports are effectively identified early and easily brought into the community's system for delivering services and supports.
- All young children and families receive regular, ongoing and comprehensive services and supports they need.
- There is a way to fund the services and supports needed by young children and families.
- Services and supports for young children and their families are organized in ways that families can easily use them.
- Families participate in decision making at all levels and find the services they receive beneficial.
- There is a systematic approach to effectively serving culturally, racially and linguistically diverse children and families.
