Coalitions for Youth Violence Prevention:
Relationships that Engage, Sustain, Unite and Link Teams and Systems
This resource presents the work of 29 Coalitions for Youth Violence Prevention in brief one page stories. This valuable technical assistance resource also provides facts about youth violence and research that shows that we have the knowledge and tools to reduce or prevent youth violence.
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration funds the Coalition for Youth Violence Prevention Program, initiated in FY 2000. The program charges local, county or state government entities with developing coalitions as a strategy to support and sustain youth violence prevention programs within communities. Grant sites implement evidence-based programs, use evaluation findings to guide key stakeholders' decisions, and engage youth and families.
The Coalition for Youth Violence Prevention Program Grantees are leaders in developing collaborative efforts to prevent or reduce youth violence. They have leveraged resources, engaged community stakeholders and facilitated a wide variety of efforts to meet complex and diverse needs within their communities. These grantees have had a significant role in building the capacity needed across communities to sustain comprehensive and complex efforts that can continuously improve the lives of youth, promote youth development, as well as reduce and prevent youth violence.
