Primer Hands On - Child Welfare, Building Systems of Care

Primer Hands On - Child Welfare, a comprehensive systems of care training curriculum for child welfare, is now available from the National Child Welfare Resource Center for Organizational Improvement (NRCOI) at www.nrcoi.org. The direct link is:  http://muskie.usm.maine.edu/helpkids/systemofcare.htm. The curriculum can be used in a number of different ways including: as an intensive 2-day training; in separate, more in-depth sessions on individual modules; and as a resource to support technical assistance providers who can draw on the materials to support their specific TA efforts. States and localities may choose to use the materials on their own, or they may request assistance.

The NRCOI, together with other National Child Welfare Resource Centers in the federal Children's Bureau Training and Technical Assistance Network, are available to provide training and TA on systems of care.  To access this TA, states need to get approval through their Federal Regional Offices.

Primer Hands On - Child Welfare, written by Sheila Pires, Katherine Lazear and Lisa Conlan, resulted from collaboration among the Children's Bureau, NRCOI, the National TA Center for Children's Mental Health at Georgetown University, the Human Service Collaborative, and the National System of Care TA and Evaluation Center at Caliber/ICF.

Within the next few months, the National TA Center at Georgetown will publish a companion document, Building Systems of Care: A Primer for Child Welfare, adapted from Building Systems of Care: A Primer by Sheila Pires.
