Presentation and Training materials from the 2006 Georgetown University Training Institutes  are now available. The Training Institutes focused on service delivery approaches that are family driven, youth guided, and individualized and that represent evidenced-based or promising practices that achieve positive outcomes for children and their families. While the Institutes is over, valuable learning and training materials are now available, including Conference Bags, a CD with presentation materials from all institutes and workshops, and a CD with resource documents.

New TA Center Resources

Compendium of In-Service Training Resources This collection of resources provides information for states and communities about competency-based, in-service curricula and training materials being used by State Mental Health Agencies to increase the knowledge, skills, and attitudes (competencies) of professional and/or paraprofessional personnel from various disciplines and specialties who are working in children's mental health.   Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation: An Evaluation Tool Kit   Child and Family Services Reviews 2001 - 2004: A Mental Health Analysis Education and Systems-of-Care Approaches: Solutions for Educators and School Mental Health Professionals 2006 Georgetown University Training Institutes: Special Forum Summaries  The Rural Web Portal: Healthy Children and Families: Helping Communities to Enhance Social and Emotional Outcomes for Children and Families in Rural and Frontier Areas  A new and valuable technical assistance resource for rural and frontier communities working to transform systems for children's behavioral health in rural and frontier areas. An outcome of the National Plan for Rural Behavioral Health, this activity is funded by the SAMHSA/Center for Mental Health Services and represents a collaboration across several technical assistance centers providing TA to children's grant programs initially those funded through SAMHSA/CMHS.  http://www.promoteprevent.org/rural

The Best Beginning: Partnerships Between Primary Health Care and Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services for Young Children and Their Families Pediatricians are in a unique position to identify early childhood mental health concerns and family mental health and substance abuse risk factors.  This SAMHSA, funded, web-based resource features eight innovative medical home practices that integrate behavioral health screening for the whole family, facilitate referrals to community services, and offer follow-up care.  This resource describes how the practices use very different approaches to do it, fund it, and the lessons they learned.  A must read for practitioners who want to replicate an integrated primary care and behavioral health model.

Technical Assistance Tool for Developing A Comprehensive Financing Plan to Support Effective Systems of Care This Self Assement and Planning Guide is a new tool to assist states, territories and communities to map current financing sources and plan financing strategies to support expanded services

Who We Are

The National Technical Assistance Center for Children's Mental Health is located within the Georgetown University Center for Child and Human Development in Washington, D.C..  Since 1984, the Technical Assistance Center has been dedicated to working in partnership with families and many other leaders across the country to transform services for children and adolescents who have, or are at risk for, mental health problems and their families.  Our approach is guided by system of care values and principles.

What We Offer   

The National Technical Assistance Center offers a variety of activities to provide information on "what works" and to help transform mental health and substance abuse services delivery systems for children and their families.  These activities include a broad range of training and technical assistance opportunities for states, tribes, territories, and communities to assist in transforming service delivery systems for children with mental health needs and their families Our training and technical assistance addresses the transformation goals and recommendations in the report of the President's New Freedom Commission on Mental Health, Achieving the Promise.
