Dear Prospective Leadership Academy Participant,
I am extremely pleased and excited that the Child, Adolescent and Family Branch at the Center for Mental Health Services is working with the Georgetown University Center for Child and Human Development to offer a new and improved Leadership Academy. Preparing leaders to assume the challenges in the mental health field is vitally important, and this training is a great opportunity to learn skills and to create a vision and commitment for your own personal leadership journey.
This Leadership Academy is designed to meet the individual needs of each participant. Whether you are a family member, a provider or an administrator you will benefit from the experience. I can personally attest to this because I participated in a Leadership Academy when I was the Children's Mental Health Director in Connecticut. To this day I carry with me the learning, the relationships and the enthusiasm that was part of this training. I encourage you to come as a community team, including a family partner because together, parents, providers and administrators can make a huge difference in both services and systems. In order to assist in creating these partnerships we are offering a number of scholarships for family members to cover the cost of the registration.
If you decide to join us in Santa Fe between March 31st and April 3rd of 2008, you will learn the "ten characteristics" of becoming a transformational leader. You will learn about different leadership styles and how each of us, no matter where we are in the organizational chart or what our role is, has the ability to demonstrate leadership. Leadership is truly everyone's business, and this intensive training will provide benefits that will last a lifetime.
I look forward to seeing you in Santa Fe,
Gary M. Blau, Ph.D., Chief
Child, Adolescent and Family Branch
Center for Mental Health Services
