Public Health Approach to Mental Health
To support the movement towards a public health approach to mental health, a team of Georgetown faculty has embarked on the development of a monograph to present a conceptual framework for a public health approach to mental health and offers strategies for stakeholders to bring mental health to the public.
The vision:
Communities, as well as society at large, will
- create and maintain social environments that promote children's optimal well-being and reduce their chance of developing mental health problems,
- provide care and support for those with additional needs, so that all children and youth can successfully manage challenges, contribute to society, and thrive.
The mission:
To energize a national and community-based movement that applies a public health approach to strengthening the mental health and well-being of children and youth:
- To galvanize leaders from diverse groups to participate in and shape the movement
- To produce a monograph that serves as a foundation for moving toward the vision
- To promote and support the use of the monograph and foster the public health approach to mental health.
