IDEA Hearings

Hearings were held recently by the U.S. Department of Education to receive public comment on the proposed regulations governing the reauthorized Individuals with Disabilities Education Act.
On July 12, 2005, one of those hearings were held on the campus of Gallaudet University. The hearing began at 1:00 p.m. and did not end until almost 10:00 p.m. to accommodate the huge number of individuals whom requested to make comments. 
Department officials included John Hager, Assistant Secretary for Special Education and Rehabilitative Services and Troy Justesen, Deputy Assistant Secretary.  Individuals testifying included a range of stakeholders, including educators, advocates, students with disabilities, and family members.

Impact of Social Security Privatization People with Disabilities

The Association of University Centers on Disability (AUCD) is participating with the Consortium for Citizens with Disabilities (CCD) to educate people about the effects of Social Security privitization on people with disabilities.
