Technical Assistance in Building Comprehensive Early Childhood Systems

Faculty at the Center for Child and Human Development provide ongoing support, technical assistance and training to state and community stakeholders who are involved in building comprehensive systems of care for young children and their families.  These efforts are supported through larger grants, such at the National TA Center for Children's Mental Health and the National Center for Cultural Competence, as well as through grants and contracts with state and community groups.    Some examples of these initiatives are:

  • ECMH TA Center
  •  Communities Can!
  • Social Emotional Competencies for Early Learning:  Through contract with the Yukon Kuskokwim Health Corporation, Early Childhood Department, faculty provide training and technical assistance to early childhood and mental health providers working with Native Alaskan families in 58 villages across central Western Alaska. These efforts will support the development of an early childhood system of care that will promote healthy social emotional development.
  • Maryland Early Childhood Mental Health Steering Committee:  Co-chaired by the Department of Mental Hygiene and the Maryland State Department of Education, this interagency committee of state and community stakeholders is charged with developing a comprehensive system of care for young children and their families.  These services and supports range from promoting healthy social emotional development to intervening with children with challenging behaviors. Faculty provide ongoing facilitation for monthly meetings, technical assistance and training as needed.
  • Maryland Early Childhood Capacity Assessment: In conjunction with the ongoing work of the Maryland Early Childhood Mental Health Steering Committee, faculty conducted an in-depth review of the capacity of each of Maryland's 24 jurisdictions to provide early childhood services and supports.  County-level profiles were generated using extant and newly collected data and shared with local stakeholders to promote systems-building activities.  Technical assistance was provided through a series of regional meetings.
  • D.C. Early Intervention Programs
    • Mediation Services:  Faculty provide training to staff, parents and other stakeholders as well as direct mediation services for families and system stakeholders involved in conflict around the provision of early intervention services.
    • Project ROSE
    • CSPD
