TRAINING INSTITUTES THEME

We are in a time of great change where the old ways of doing business are being re-examined and where reforms in health care and across child-serving systems are underway to improve services and outcomes. States, communities, tribes, and territories face real challenges in their efforts to improve services for children, adolescents, and young adults with or at risk for mental health problems and their families. Policy makers, providers, families and youth, researchers, educators, advocates, and others across all child-serving systems are searching for answers and practical strategies to address many critical issues.

The system of care approach has been at the forefront of providing effective strategies and solutions. The 2012 Training Institutes will focus on innovative approaches, and how lessons learned from systems of care can guide efforts to improve children’s mental health service delivery in a dramatically changing environment.

Training Institutes sessions will address the following critical questions:

  1. How do we build capacity and improve access for children, youth, and their families to a broad range of home and community-based services and supports?
  2. How do we assure that the services and supports we provide are effective, evidence-informed, and promising practices to produce positive outcomes?
  3. How do we best finance and pay for services and ensure that we invest resources wisely and effectively?
  4. How do we build partnerships and involve systems that serve children, youth, and families and join together in a common enterprise to improve the lives of children and their families?
  5. How do we ensure that families drive services for their children, that services are youth guided, that diverse populations receive care that is culturally and linguistically competent, and that we customize services to meet needs and build on strengths?
  6. How do we implement services and supports as part of reforms and changing environments?
  7. How do we collect data that we can use to evaluate and continually improve our services?
  8. How do we sustain and expand what is working?
  9. How do we use strategic communication to /improve awareness about the importance of caring for every child’s mental health?
